WHATS UP MEOW?
2003 INTRAMURAL KICKBALL CHAMPS
When the 2003 USOA Kickball tournament began no one had ever heard of "What's Up Meow." Truly their Cinderella story was one that warmed the hearts and inspired the underdog in all of us. Experts will tell you this was due to the fact that the team wasn't actually organized until mere minutes before the first round began Story has it that they didn't even have uniforms until the second round. Sources explained to me that there was a problem with their team equipment manager missing a airline flight or something but upon closer inspection it would appear they just ran out of white T-shirts and printer ink. A storied group comprised of mostly aerospace engineers and every female with two legs the nerds knew. No other team gave What's Up Meow a second thought, that is until the made it to the championship game. With no information from the scouting reports the opposition had no real game plan. Thinking it wouldn't matter because they could ride their Greek pedigree to the east victory this attitude eventually caught up to them late in the 5th inning. This is when grit and perseverance and the knowledge that an opportunity such as this would never happen again stirred the brainiacs on. It was a great final game reminiscent of Villanova's triumph over #1 Georgetown in the 1985 NIT. No one could have predicted it. (turns out their pitcher admitted after the game he was a cocaine addict which explained his controversially bouncy pitches) Needless to say an emotional come from behind victory ensued and the nerds prevailed. To this day the team holds the intramural kickball record for most ocean/aerospace engineers on a championship team. Promptly after the victory the team was found downtown celebrating like true victors with a round of Irish car bombs at The Rivermill. A great ending to an ever better story.
