Cindo de Mayo – Chain of events Times are approximate, events and people are real. May 1-May 5: Ryan (Opee) assembles crew to embark on Cinco de Mayo bar crawl (5 hours, 5 bars, $5). He is looking only for the best and brightest, as Cinco de Mayo is a very important holiday. He comes up with a crew of 5 solid and dependable hokies, each one of which has the potential to be a star on a given night (Evan, Jeff, the Recent Divorce’, Opee, Tone). May 5th, 7:00pm: The crew arrives at Rumor’s on M street in NW DC. We are surprised to get a warm reception from all. We chalk it up to the spirit of the Holiday. Many $3 margaritas are consumed. It must be our night, because the Ohio State biatch got kicked off the bar crawl before 8pm. 8:30 pm –1:45am: We go to several bars and continue to get too drunk to talk. Most of our memories are lost to the liquor. The main Tone highlight is Jeff trying to punch me in the face while I was celebrating the Wizards loss. Thanks Evan for restraining that S.O.B. 2:00am: Tone finds himself all alone at the bar. After a cursory look around for crew, Tone heads to the Metro. Tone reasons crew has either shacked up with ladies or passed out in a public place. 2:15am: Tone is safe on Metro. Tone thanks the Cinco de Mayo gods. Tone calls Opee. Opee says he is at “that president’s place.” Tone says, “Do you mean the Kennedy Center?”. Opee says “yeah.” Tone considers trying to tell Opee how to get to the metro from there, but decides it is too much effort. Tone wonders how ryan walked the several miles to the kennedy center in the middle of the night and how young Opee will find his way home. 2:20am: Opee is walking home to Mclean, as is his right. He starts down 66, a man on a mission. He runs into some night construction on 66. 3:15am: After doing some construction work, Opee tells his new friends he has to get home. He climbs into a truck and starts it, but is stopped before he can drive home. His new construction friends explain to him that they will be fired if they allow Opee to steal the truck, but they thank him for helping out. No problem says Opee, I will just walk, and he starts to trudge up 66. 3:19am: Opee is passed out in a ditch, 300 yards from the construction site. 4:00am: Opee is awakened by an officer of the law. Officer seems nice, and Opee quickly makes friends with officer. Officer says he will take Opee home. 4:30am: On the way home, officer and Opee encounter a Mexican drunk driver. Even though it is the Mexican’s holiday, Officer still arrests him, because DUI’s are no joke, and he is not white like Opee. Now Opee is in the back seat with Mexican drunk. Opee tells Mexican drunk thank you for the holiday. Unfortunately, the Mexican speaks no English, but Opee doesn’t really notice. 5:00am: Officer, Opee, and Mexican arrive at Jail. Opee sleeps in lobby whilst the Mexican is being processed. 9:00am: Officer once again wakes Opee and offers to take him home. Opee is happy for some solid experience that will help him at the next tailgate, and yet another night spent in a jail lobby.
