(A brief and incomplete history)

Factory Home

"Most VT historians of the early 2000's credit one Charles Clifton Morris with coining the name of "The Factory".   Morris was often challenged about the name in those first, fledgling days of The Factory.  Many a man, much less experienced at the art of assigning nomenclature than Mr. Morris, asked what exactly it was they were making down on Progress Street.  Morris often replied that "those sons of bitches (the four charter members) make shit happen."  It was this kind of simple, yet clairvoyant, logic that endeared Mr. Morris to so many 6 th floor AJ girls.  Mr. Morris used his gifts to their utmost, as he has since married a 6th floor girl and retired from the tailgating circuit."

While we can all appreciate the work done by historians sometimes its best to get the information straight from the horses mouth. As submitted by one original Factory Member:

"The factory was not on Progress Street, but actually
at 1009 Montgomery Street.  The name "The Factory" was actually coined in
relation to the hit HBO show the Sopranos.  In the show, they call the Strip
Club where they hold all of their business "The Factory".  Since Clark (one
of the founding members) had bought the first three seasons of the Sopranos
on DVD, we had become well versed.  The founding four members (Thomas
"T-Rea" Rea, Noah "Dr. Reno" Bailey, Shaun "Peepers" Beam & Clark "Simdog"
Simmers) spent 4.5 days straight leading up to the Fall semester of 2002
watching the Sopranos.  The show would become a tremendous influence on the factory.  One Halloween three members and Matt "Heat" Heatwole dressed up as the Sopranos.  Noah was Tony, Heat was Silvio, T-Rea was Paulie, and Peeps was Christopher.  Clark decided to go as Joe Dirt that year and did a
surprisingly good job.  To bring the story back full circle, Clif Morris
came over one time and heard us mention "The Factory".  After hearing us
talk of this factory for some time he stopped and asked what the factory
was.  Everyone looked at Clif as if he had slapped their mothers.  We then
explained to him that it was the name of the house.  When he asked why "The
Factory", Noah, in his often devilish tone, barked "because we get shit
done".  Clif nodded approvingly and the rest, as you have read, is history."
